LaVerne James

LaVerne A. James, age 87, of Washington, passed away at 10:15 PM on Monday at the home of her daughter. She was born on March 17, 1924 in Daviess County to Silas and Cora (Spaulding) Mattingly. She was a 1943 Graduate of Montgomery High School. She had work at US Rubber for several years and for six years at Naval Surface Warfare Center at Crane. She married John William James on June 16, 1949 and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1977. She was a member of St. Simon church and a member of the Moose Lodge. She is survived by one daughter, Vidette James of Hudsonville and two nieces. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Tmelda Mattingly and Monica Clements. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday at St. Peter Catholic Church with Father James Koressel as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
