The Reverend E. Ann Embry, 74, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 5:00 pm at Select Care Hospital in Evansville, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 9, 1939 to Jacob Frederic Johnson and Martha (Wilson) Johnson. Ann was awarded a Masters of Divinity Degree from Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, in 1999; a Masters of Science in Education Degree from Indiana University In 1976; and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Bloomfield College in New Jersey in 1961. Ann moved to Washington, Indiana from Indianapolis in 1999. She taught in the elementary grades and taught junior high mathematics in Indianapolis Public Schools for 26 years. She was licensed to preach at the Robinson Community AME Church in Indianapolis, in 1992. She was ordained an elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church at Wayman Chapel in Kokomo in 1997. Ann served the AME Church in Seymour, Indiana, for one year. She was appointed Pastor of Beulah African Methodist Episcopal church in Washington, IN in August, 1998. Her prison ministry was especially important to her and she made a difference in the lives of many. She volunteered through RSVP and worked with Feed My Sheep, served on the board of the Daviess County Mental Health Association and worked with the Daviess County Adult Literacy Committee. She was active in the local Ministerial Association. She is survived by her daughter, Beverlyann Embry, and granddaughter, Serenity Eaves of Indianapolis; brothers Frederic (Fritz) Johnson & wife of Florida; William (Billy) Wilson & wife Linda of New Jersey;, nieces, Martha Johnson, Margaret Johnson, Jennifer Wilson, nephews William (Billy) Wilson and wife Marie, Michael Wilson & wife Jenifer. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Ed Lee Mortuary,101 North Meridian St. in Washington, at 1:00 pm. Viewing will begin at 10:00 am until time of service. Internment will be at the Hawkins Cemetery.
