Velma Purdy, 82, of Washington, passed away at Good Samaritan Home and Rehab Center in Oakland City at 5:20 AM on May 22, 2014. Velma was born on July 29, 1931 to Frank Harner and Sudie (Brown) Harner. She retired from the Washington City Utilities Office. Velma was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. She is survived three sons, Paul Overton Jr. of Sacramento, CA. and Joseph D. Overton (Carolyn) and Michael J. Overton (Betty), both of Washington; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Anthony "Tony" Purdy on December 18, 2012 whom she married on June 24, 1994. She is also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Frank Harner Jr., Peter Harner, Tom Harner, John "Dutch" Harner; two sisters, Vera Battey and Violet; and a daughter-in law, Barbara Overton. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 27, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Johns cemetery.
