William "Bill" Hayes 96 , of Washington, passed away at 2:05 PM on Friday, April 13, with his family by his side. He was born September 2, 1915 in Washington. He had worked for the B.&O. Railroad and Coca Cola, and retired from city of Washington. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran where he received a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and American Legion life time member. He is survived by four daughters and son-in -law, Jan and Bob Grider of Crossville, III., Brenda and Dick Mangel of Holland, Diane and Stan McCarty of Washington and Karen and Rick Sponn of Washington; six grandchildren, Bobby, Rebecca, Beth, Eric, Jeff and Matt; nine great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; and sister-in-law Janet Hayes of Washington. He was preceded in death, his wife Mary Edith Hayes on March 26, 2009, three sisters, Alice Harrington, Jane Brothers and Rosemary Kennedy and four brothers James Hayes, Joseph Hayes, Robert Hayes and Michael Hayes.
