Carl E. Brochin

Carl E. Brochin age 89, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Monday January 12, 2009 at 5:15 AM at Daviess Community Hospital. He was born on April 6, 1919 in Washington to Henry and Maude (Ulrich) Brochin. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church, was a member the VFW and a 60 year member of the American Legion. He was a Veteran of World War II, a building contractor, an engineer with the Indiana State Highway, and a musician. His musical career spanned more then five decades. He played most stringed instruments, but especially enjoyed playing the bass guitar. The last several years he volunteered his time playing music for local nursing homes. Carl also loved fishing with his wife Cleo and doing many woodworking projects for his family and friends. He begin and ran St. Mary's School Lunch Program as a volunteer for twelve years. napolis; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo (Alford) Brochin on July 3, 2007 whom he had married on June 3, 1940. Also preceded him in death were three brothers Charles Brochin, Harold Brochin, and Robert Brochin; and on sister, Norma Allen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Gordon Mann as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW.
