Martha Jean Smith "Mom-mom" of Washington went to her heavenly home surrounded by her loved ones, at 3:48 pm, Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at her residence. She was born April 21, 1929 in Bedford, Indiana, to Eloise (Lythgoe) Gates. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Hope Church. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, the Washington Library and was a basketball fan. She married Francis "Frank" Smith on June 11, 1951, who passed away December 7, 1993. She is survived by two sons, Greg (Natalie) Smith of Washington; Robert Owen (Christi) Smith, Pontiac, Illinois; two daughters, Francine (Lex) Brashear, of Washington and Karen (Mark) Stair of Seattle, Washington; Grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Justin Smith, Connor Brashear, Elayana Brashear, Calvin Stair, Kaitlin Stair, Lauren Stair, Paul William Koester, and Zach Koester. She is preceded in death by her mother, and three sisters, Pauline Traver, Carol Cable, Patricia (Patty) Smith, and one grandson, Sheldon Smith. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00 AM on Friday at Our Lady of Hope, with Father Gordon Mann celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Johns Cemetery in Loogootee.
