Colleen was born on April 17, 1931, in Marshall, Minn. to Raynard Skillings and Marie Skillings Daschle. Through her life Colleen lived in Bismark, ND, Ivanhoe, Winona, Chatfield, Spring Grove and St. Charles, Minn. Colleen graduated at St. Mary's High School in 1949, in Bismark, ND and attended St. Theresa's College in Winona, Minn. On August 25, 1951, Colleen was united in marriage with D. John Nelson. Colleen was a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters and Winona County Extension Homemakers group. Colleen was a Cub Scout Den Mother, taught religious education in St. Charles, belonged to St. Charles CCW in the St. Joseph's Unit and enjoyed helping with church dinners. Colleen loved spending time with her family, watching her grandchildren at sporting events and spending time with them at the cabin. p. She thoroughly enjoyed watching sporting events, "Go Twins!" In addition she enjoyed traveling in the motor-home, camping, spending time down south, gardening, golfing, Tuesday's "Maids Day Off", shopping, and being married to John for almost 6o years.
Colleen is survived by her husband, D. John Nelson; eight children: Greg (Bonnie) of Tenstrike, Minn., Gary (Lori) of Alden, Minn., Doug of Winona, Minn., Tim of Minot, ND, Kurt (Lisa) of St. Charles, Minn., Kevin (Becky) of Zumbrota, Minn., David (Margaret) of Stewartville, Minn., and Jennifer (Mick) Kruse of North Mankato, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
There will be a Funeral Mass for Colleen at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 15, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in St. Charles with the Rev. Kurt Farrell officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in St. Charles. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in St. Charles where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Vigil Service. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the Funeral Mass on Monday at the Church.
Colleen's family prefers memorials to be directed to St. Charles High School Foundation for Academic Excellence or to St. Charles Borrromeo Catholic Church for the church's kitchen.
