Elizabeth Ann Hankey, 66, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her family and memories. Betsy was born September 7, 1947, in Cincinnati, OH. She was the daughter of the late John S. DenHerder and Lucille E. (Matson) DenHerder. In 1969, she graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Denison University in Granville, OH. She received an advanced degree in Microbiology from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. On June 18, 1977 she married attorney Charles D. Hankey in Indianapolis, IN. Until 1985, she worked in the Microbiology Lab at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. She was passionate about literacy, volunteering in the library at Park Tudor School. She worked with her husband as the bookkeeper for Hankey Law Office. She retired in 2012. She filled her life with the living of it - reading, gardening, needlepointing, antiquing, and being with her family. She was an avid traveller and her favorite destinations were San Francisco, CA., London, England and Paris, France. She was a lover of fine arts and theater. The Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, IN. Dr. Jim Riley is officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family would love any memorial contributions to be made to the Westminster Food Pantry in Indianapolis, IN.
